You may be familiar with good old-fashioned granite countertops, believe it or not, according to Southern Living, granite is becoming less popular and it is being replaced with marble or quartz. While marble is more or less around the same price range as granite, quartz will be priced a tad bit more than granite and marble. According to Improvenet, the cost for marble countertops ranges from $40 – $100/sf while the cost for granite countertops ranges from $34 – $75/sf. Thus, you can easily upgrade your countertops just by spending a little bit more. Quartz is a bit pricier with a cost of $60 – $115/sf.

It is very common to hear people talk about white kitchen counters and how they make the kitchen look and feel more spacious, yet people are feeling as though these all- white kitchens feel cold. This new year people are leaning more towards warmer colors instead of whites. These browns will create a warmer atmosphere for your kitchen. According to Zillow, metals and matte will surge at the start of this new year. For medium brown wood cabinets, a metal or matte handle or knob is the perfect combination to compliment those cabinets. These warmer colors can be combined with a dark or light countertop.

Many people don’t realize the impact plants play in the decoration of their homes. Not only do they bring color to a room, but they purify the air and even improve health. In the past year, cacti and succulents became very popular due to them not needing to be watered. Now, big leafy plants are in. These plants add color to any room, not just the kitchen. The only downside to this is they must be watered regularly, not just whenever one remembers to. They also need a certain amount of sunlight, there are plenty of options for kitchen plants that will enhance the look of your kitchen for a relatively cheap price.

Now, if all of this sounds overwhelming, don’t stress. There is plenty of changes you can make in order to improve the look of your kitchen without having to tear it down. You can add a little bit of color by simply painting the walls or the cabinets a different color. Also, changing the backsplash to something lighter and subtler will change the look of your kitchen tremendously. Even by simply decluttering your kitchen, it will make it aesthetically pleasing and make it more spacious.

There are eight palettes according to Elle Decor that will be the hot trend for this year. These palettes are made up of complementary blue and orange, vegetable colors like green, purple and eggshell blue, lime, Elderberry and Hawthorne rose, and earthy yellow, with pink tones, black and gold hues, bright turquoise with oink and purple and finally the new neutral colors, the metallics.

On the other hand, if you only have eyes for neutrals there is a new color people are raging about. It is Sage Green. This color is replacing the popular colors beige and white. If you are not familiar with this color, it is a greyish green color. This new color is becoming more and more popular because it is easy to match with furniture, its vibrant yet soft, and there are infinite ways to decorate with. This color is not only being used for walls, but also for cabinets and furniture as well.

I came across some interesting information that may be useful if you are trying to sell your home. Turns out that there is one color that believe it or not, adds value to your home, up to thousands of dollars at the time of purchase. That color is ivory. According to Victoria Gimson, design director and founder of Decorum Interior Design, she said “ivory is timeless, classic and versatile.” This color is perfect, because it gives new buyers a blank canvas to work with from scratch. Yet, it is still important to keep in mind that that adding accent furniture that give a pop of color that will contrast with the walls, and will catch the eye of potential buyers. Painting the interior of your home ivory will make it look like it is maintained and will make it easier for buyers to decorate as they will not have to worry about repainting the house after purchasing.

After reviewing Better Homes & Gardens, I came across a few different color combinations that will leave anyone that walks by speechless. Not only do these combinations create a flawless look, but they create a statement. Making your home unique in a way that can represent those who own it.

The first combination is Pearl Gray + Slate Blue + White. These colors create a peaceful look by incorporating mostly gray, adding the slate blue as a statement, and adding bright white to accent the details of the home.

Next, we have Cocoa + Olive + Off White + Russet. All these colors create a warm and homey feeling to any home. As mentioned in Better Homes & Gardens, “Choose light and dark shades of one or two nature-inspired neutrals to fashion an exterior that steps lightly on the landscape.” Adding a russet color to the front door or window frame will be a catch.

Popularly enough, Salmon + Jade + Rusty Brown are listed as well. The idea would be to paint the walls of a salmon color. This color radiates warmth and depending on the architecture of the house, it can give it an older look. Utilizing the rusty brown for the window frames and the jade for the shutters make an unforgettable contrast.

We all know you can never go wrong with a good White + Black + Gray combination. These colors may be safe, but they will make a house look simple yet classy. An all-white house will give any house a country feel. By adding some black to the shutters and gray to the stairs leading up to the house will make this a dream house. Something else to consider would be making the front door red, now this will definitely captivate all the neighbors.
